WAGES GROWTH STILL AT RECORD LOWS

New ABS data released today has confirmed that annual wages growth remains at record lows, following years of wage stagnation under the Liberals long before the pandemic.

This Liberal and National Government has presided over the worst wages growth in Australia’s history, and after the worst recession in almost a century their priority is to cut the take home pay of working Australians.

Today’s release of the ABS Wage Price Index shows that annual wages growth stalled at 1.4 per cent for the December quarter.

Instead of a plan to get wages and the economy moving, the Morrison Government’s cuts to pay, cuts to superannuation, attacks on job security, and a budget riddled with rorts, will only make things worse.

Stagnant wages growth, record household debt, and high underemployment were major economic challenges before the virus and now risk prolonging the impact of the recession.

Australians need and deserve a government that is on their side, prioritising good, secure, well-paid jobs, with fair pay and conditions.

Only Labor is fighting to build an economy that is stronger and fairer after the pandemic than it was beforehand.
